The channel, previously renowned for its focus on contemporary movies, is expanding to also feature short format content including sitcoms, soaps, magazine and reality shows.
The change, which takes effect from the 16th of March, 2015 at 12:00 CAT, will also see the channel remove its ‘movies’ descriptor as it will henceforth simply be known as Africa Magic Urban.
According to the Regional Director, M-Net (West), Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, this is part of Africa Magic’s ongoing development strategy, as the brand continues to enhance the viewer experience whilst ensuring its channels are clearly defined by content and name.

Speaking further, Mba-Uzoukwu said: “At Africa Magic we constantly strive to improve our offerings. It is in this vein that the Africa Magic Urban Movies channel is experiencing a change as it expands on its content whilst also removing its movies designation. The new Africa Magic Urban channel will henceforth be the home of new and exclusive short format content like soaps, sitcoms, magazine and reality shows, even as it continues to showcase exciting contemporary movies that mirror real life and tell real stories.”

The General Entertainment channel, which sits on the compact and premium bouquets, will also bring to viewers popular shows like the Emmy Award nominated Angolan telenovella; Windeck, and Nigerian television series, Gidi Up, amongst many others.

“The rest of the Africa Magic channels will remain as they are, and our viewers can continue to expect the best of world class African entertainment content. Our viewers’ options have greatly improved and with so much more new and exciting content like telenovellas, sitcoms and reality shows coming up in 2015, the Africa Magic channels remain the best place for lovers of entertainment,” Mba-Uzoukwu concluded.
